(lyrics to the melody of You Picked a Fine Time to Leave me, Lucille)
On the road in Toledo, after passing a couple of people
The rain was coming down so hard you could not see to the left or the right
The music was loud, and we laughed and joked like two friends often do.
My partner in crime, Neal, was next to me, and on Corey Road, we flew.
The wipers were a full blast because the rain made it hard to pass.
Unknown to us, what happened next, we hardly knew.
It was not half a minute later, and something on my car blew.
He looked back and said, with a slight bit of dread
Kevin “Do you have a spare tire with you?”
I responded, “Nope, because when this car is going to fall apart, that will not be the issue.”
He asked me, “What the F#$%, why don’t you carry a spare tire?” What he saw made him realize the prior statement was very much true!
He said, “eff it, forget that, are those, no way, can’t be oh you are screwed,
“Holy Shit, I see sparks!” Then we both heard things sound like they were breaking apart?!
I managed to slow down and come to a neighborhood turnaround.
We both got out of the car, rain still coming down,
We both looked and could not believe what we saw; that is why I had to sigh and look back at what Neal knew.
You took a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
Wintertime is here, and my dad does not have any jobs that are in clear view.
When he finds out, he will have my ass back and blue
You Could Have Picked a Better Time, Not Now, Why Did You?
You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
My dad was not happy because this car I beat on we both knew
You took a fine time to leave me loose wheel
No painting jobs soon, so the car sat, and my dad stewed.
When they got it on the lift, it looked like a matchbox that beat black and blue.
Both wheels were bent down and with him a frown,
I so wanted to be nowhere to be found.
He was pissed at me because he would see that I pulled into the neighborhood I flew.
You took a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
In all, we were lucky,
Because if it happened a minute before, the car would have rolled over, and that would be sucky,
We could have messed up; my dad would not want to hear from me and told me, “Kevin, please shut up.”
I drove like teenagers often do. The car would see its fair front-end part, lower control arms, and tie rods.
My dad, at the sight of the car lift, not to mention the other mechanics, was in amazement too, with
“What the hell have you done, Kevin, My G-d!”
I would shuffle my feet and stare into space as they examined the inside of the fender that was cake up with sod.
Getting in the painting van passenger seat, I would sink and think all I could think.
He always says to tell him what is true! So that is what I shall do.
He did not turn the key and just looked at me.
I thought to myself and knew it, “Kevin, you are in the shit.”
He did not say anything for a bit,
When he was mad as hell, it would come with some spit.
I agreed with everything he said, and he was very much in the right,
I felt terrible for letting him down that night.
We sat in the truck, not saying anything to each other, then he said, “what the fuck”
He said he was sorry that he yelled at me and saw how badly he made me feel.
You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
