Why Are Honda Owners Are So Loyal?

I answered this question a while back on Quora, I think before I was an invited to be a partner, anwhooo

One quick story to answer your question if you allow me.

My Dad - Worked in the Factory, made gears for Dana Corp in Toledo. Never ever considered buying or looking at anything made outside the USA.

“There will never be any Japanese (Rice Burner) in this driveway,” We thought to go to anything but American brands was blasphemist. Where he worked they had a partitioned parking lot for those ‘foreign jobs.’ Union workers, after all, it was more than pride, it was American Way for them to make money.

At the time we had a Ford Conversion Van, One Ford Painting Van and my mom had a Pontiac Bonneville. My dad’s Ford we had to replace 3 engines, belts, blower motors, radiators, master cylinders and the like. The Pontiac, it was old, way past 100,000 miles and back then it was constantly having to get new bearings, tie-rods, alternator, starter, etc etc. The reliability was killing us in the long run with having to ‘throw money’ down the pit to keep them running.

Reliability and being well made becoming Honda’s ‘staple.’ While the American Makes was still putting them out in numbers, the “Foreign Jobs’ was not requiring anything to MAINTAIN them besides the usual oil changes etc. for the long haul.

That was evident in what was going on at the Berg Household. Dad was still working in the factory. Guys at the plant were buying the nameplates that were coming up quick in the American Marketplace. That nameplate was Honda, Toyota and the like.

The public was taking notice of the disruption to a newer quality of manufacturing. After the Pontiac bit the dust, realizing that the Foreign cars were not only made better but they were requiring just basic oil changes(from the guys at the Factory), my dad was sold.

He was like I never would have guessed that in two years we would have not one, but two and then after college I sold my Ford Mustang GT and got a Honda Prelude that we only had to replace the blower motor on. My dad still could not get over how reliable the Hondas were.
